Founder & Chairman of OKC Navy Days Passes - Mike McAuliffe

Mike McAuliffe posted by Deborah McAuliffe Senner

My heart breaks as I share that we lost my brother, Mike McAuliffe this evening, November 29th - another victim of Covid. Needless to say, our family is devastated. He fought hard. We prayed hard. God took him home so there is no more pain and no more struggle to breathe. Please know how much my family has appreciated the outpouring of love toward Mike, the unceasing prayers, vigils, rosaries, the hundreds and hundreds of FB posts, calls, emails and texts - all genuinely and lovingly concerned for Mike. The comments about Mike over the last two weeks read like that of a modern day hero. People praised his community service, his contributions to this city, commented on his quick wit, his unrelenting charm, his great smile, commented that he was “the glue” for his McGuinness Class of 75, he was at the core of his leadership Oklahoma class as well as his LOKC class, the ultimate Rotarian, he was “the doer,” the connector, seemingly invincible, he was the special event wizard, a visionary and always the consummate gentleman (in that signature bow tie) and for me the little sister, he was so much more. I truly felt that everyone in this town was pushing for his recovery. This city, the city he loved with his entire being- he did all that he could to make a difference and dare I say he left his mark. A celebration of Mike’s life will be planned when it is safe to do so.

What Mike McAuliffe did for TACAMO!

Mike McAuliffe began supporting the Navy in June of 2004. He was the founder and chairman of OKC Navy Days. "He was a good friend and generous man who truly cared about the Sailors here in OKC. I enjoyed working with him and will sorely miss him.” Bob Holland USN SCW-1.

The following is a list of what TACAMO was working on this year with Mike, although COVID-19 was a heavy impact in 2020. All events were for the benefit of the Sailors in OKC.

  • "15th Annual OKC Navy Days in Oklahoma City" OKC Navy Days Proclamation

  • Gardner Tanenbaum Holdings Navy Golf Classic

  • Oklahoma State Fair Complimentary Admission Passes for Sailor's Children Sponsored by OKC Navy Days

  • OKC Holiday Festival on the Oklahoma River, Navy Families Guests of OKC Navy Days

  • USS OKC Submarine Race Benefiting OKC Navy Days & Folds of Honor

  • OKC Navy Days VIP Reception Honoring Captain Anthony Barnes, Commander Strategic Communications Wing One & Commander, Task Group 114.2

  • Oklahoma BBQ Championship

  • OKC Jazz Festival

  • Will Rogers Comedy Tour

------------

Bernie Greteman reported the passing with the following: "We lost a great NAS Tinker advocate today. Mike was a huge supporter or our Navy community!

He wasn’t in TACAMO. He was the one who founded and ran the annual Navy Days celebration here at Tinker. Long time supporter of TACAMO. He was a Navy Veteran but as far as I know he never served within any of the units." TCVA thanks Bernie.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be planned when it is safe to do so.

TCVA extends its sympathy and prayer for peace to the McAuliffe's family and friends during this time of the passing.
