TACAMO Fallen Daniel Sprague: VQ-4

May 23, 1947 — January 14, 2025







Daniel Keith Sprague, 77, passed away on January 14, 2025. He was born on May 23, 1947 to the late Lincoln and Veronica Sprague in Minneapolis, Minnesota.


Daniel was honored to serve in the United States Navy for over 23 years.

Time in TACAMO:

  • VQ-4 NOV 1971 thru NOV 1976

  • Force Warfare DEC 1976 thru DEC 1980

  • VQ-4 JAN 1980 thru June 1991



Daniel enjoyed waterskiing, fishing, and leisure boat rides. Daniel was always excited to tell about the history of the antiques in his home. He took pleasure in grilling for his family, especially Sunday steak dinners. He was very proud of his vegetable garden as well. His presence was deeply enjoyed by his family and an abundance of friends.


In addition to his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Sprague.


Daniel is survived by his wife, Linda Sprague, daughters, Carolyn (Anthony) Raspa, Linda Martin, siblings, Marty (Becky) Sprague, Kathy (Tony) Atnip, Theresa (Ron) Thompson, grandchildren, Jessica and Allyssa Rapsa, Jaden Martin, great-grandchildren, Adelline Hyde, Waylon and Jorden Martin, nieces, Kelli Baker, Jennifer (Steve) Bunn, nephews, Shane (Avery) Sprague, Jason and Michael Thompson, Brandon Sprague, TJ (Beth) Atnip, 6 great-nieces and 7 great-nephews.


A celebration of life of life service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Companion Funeral Home - The Cleveland Chapel. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm prior to the service. A graveside service is to follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.


The TACAMO Community extends its sympathy and prayer for peace to Daniel's family and friends during this time of the passing.

Dan was my first supervisor. Had to be one of the nicest guys you could ever run into. Took me under his wing and taught me what he could. Peace to you brother.

Dan worked for me as an E5 and was one of the best in our airframes shop at VQ-4. He always was willing to help everyone and smiled all the time. Rest in peace Dan, you will be missed.
