Jennifer Stevens, daughter of Chuck shared this post
"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of my father Charles Baxter Fitchet. His passing was sudden but he went peacefully. We will release more information once arrangements have been made. We appreciate the support from everyone. He was a great dad and made me the strong woman who I am today. I will miss my best friend."
Family photo Buff & Katy: This was taken in ‘82 right after Trish
was born. Buff’s mom is in the middle. We were
heading to a luau at the Hale Koa.
Thank you Katy Crowell, Spouse of posthumous Bill "Buff" Crowell, for sharing the posting with TCVA.
"Hate to have to share sad news, but I just saw that Chuck Fitchet has died. We were neighbors in Hawaii."
Memories from Katy:
Funny story that comes to my mind. When our kids were very little, they called him Chunga. Our doors backed up to each other in Hawaii and when he would get home, Trish or Trey would be at the door and say “hi Chunga”. When Chuck made XO and Bill stop calling him Chuck and started calling him XO then the kids would greet him and say “ hi XO!”
Obit and funeral arrangements will be posted when arrangements are made.
It was sad to hear the news about Chuck. He was one of the plank owners in the community leading to our warfare specialty. When he was the CO of VQ-3 I was in OPNAV in the early days of the E-6 planning and transition. I could always rely on his honest assessment knowing he would do what was right for the fleet. As a previous commenter said “with charm and wit”. God bless our shipmate and his family. He was a husband, father and true patriot. We will miss him.
Thanks so much for that pic and memory, Katy. Chuck was so dear to so many of us. Great ops boss—all business but got the job done…with charm and wit.
Sorry to hear of this loss to the TACAMO community. Spider-Man was one of my co-pilots for a while and was the subject of interest on the train following an Army-Navy game in 1978 if I remember correctly. He will be missed.
