TACAMO Passing: AFCM Paul David Laigle, USN, (Ret.)

April 10, 1935 - February 20, 2025


It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Master Chief (Ret.) Paul David Laigle “David”, 89, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a true American hero. David passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, surrounded by his family.

David was born on April 10, 1935 in Torrington, CT to the late Albert Celestine Laigle and Kathryn Margaret (nee: Woodilla) Laigle.  His passion for service and dedication to his country led him to enlist in the United States Navy at the age of 17. Over the course of a distinguished 28-year career, Master Chief Laigle rose through the ranks to become one of the most respected leaders in the Navy. His unwavering commitment to his fellow sailors and his exceptional leadership earned him numerous accolades, including multiple Navy Commendation Medals.

After retiring from the Navy in 1978, David went on to design and create the Welding program at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center located in Leonardtown, Maryland. David’s love of teaching and leadership made him the perfect instructor and mentor to many students in St. Mary’s County.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Charleen Laigle, seven children: Michael Laigle (Pamela) of Valley Lee, MD, Edward Laigle (Kelley) of Dixfield, ME, Bruce Laigle (Kim) of Hughes Springs, TX; Dean Laigle (Debra) of Greenwood, IN; Linda Ward of Callaway, MD; Julianne Puchetti (Nicholas) of Piney Point, MD and Lori Kellis (Robert) of Great Mills, MD; siblings: Linda Sokolik (Bobby), Edward Laigle, Holly Pretak (Thomas) and Kenneth “Kenny” Laigle (Jeanne); daughter-in-law, Tracy Laigle of Surprise, AZ; 22 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.  In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, (Lowell) Wayne Laigle, son-in-law, Buddy Ward; and siblings: Leona Hestad, Elizabeth “Betty” Revaz, Richard “Dick” Laigle; Elinor Coppa; Mildred “Mimi” Bauce; Cynthia Fabbiaschi; infant Joan Laigle; Donald “Donnie” Laigle; and Albert “Al” Laigle.

Family will receive friends for David’s Life Celebration on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a Service officiated by Pastor Brian Shepard at 11 a.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will be held at a later date.
