TCVA to Reschedule 2022 Pax River Reunion, AGAIN!!!
The TCVA Board of Directors met this week to discuss the current COVID situation and unanimously voted to postpone the May 2022 reunion in Pax to Labor Day weekend (September 1 to 5). Those who have made hotel reservations at our host hotels (Fairfield & Home2Suites) can rest assured that their reservations have been carried forward to the September event, without penalty or cost to you. If you need to cancel your reservations, please call the hotel you made your reservations with. Link to hotels: https://www.tacamo.org/2022hotels
TCVA will reassess the COVID situation at our May meeting to decide if conditions will be favorable for the September timeframe. We will announce it at that time.
A lot of time, effort and resources go into planning a multi-day party for several hundred guests. We want to feel certain that our guests are as safe as possible in these uncertain times. So, we choose to be prudent and err on the side of safety for our mostly “senior” demographic.
That said, we are exploring other methods to share the work we’ve done at the Pax River Naval Museum and ways to simulate the camaraderie of an in-person reunion. Certainly, hugging an old friend and shipmate cannot be simulated by a Zoom gathering. A virtual tour of our museum exhibit is not the same as actually being there. But, challenges are the genesis of innovation. We welcome your comments and suggestions on innovative approaches. Please submit your ideas to the TCVA Board of Directors at: tacamocommunity@gmail.com
In the meantime, TCVA will continue working on the museum exhibit and the events for the Labor Day weekend reunion. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
We have lost many of our shipmates since our last reunion. People we hoped to see again at the next reunion. Still, many have survived this pandemic and quarantine and may long for the connection of a long-time friend. Give them a call. Send them a text or email. Somehow, reach out to your TACAMO family and check in with them. It’s not the same as a reunion, but cheaper and easier to do. Catching up with your TACAMO friends is good therapy for both parties.
